Here's a great lesson on Portela's caixa ride (snare drum pattern) from the great Gabriel Lopes, one of Austin Samba's guest teachers from Brazil. Portela is an elite samba school in Rio, and we use their caixa ride in our fast samba. This video is in Portuguese but there's an English transcription below. However, you don't need to understand the words to get the drum pattern. There are musical transcriptions on screen, and the lesson is paced for all levels.

Here's my friend Marcus Santos teaching a very important pattern called teleco teco. This pattern comes originally from Bantu people via the rhythm Cabula, and is found in many types of samba.
